You can activate your bliss molecules and we'll tell you how...
In 1964, Israeli researcher Dr. Raphael Mechoulam made an important discovery. He identified the primary active compound found in the cannabis plant, which is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. From there, Dr. Mechoulam and his team discovered the molecules in the human body that bind to cannabinoid receptors. He called one of these the “bliss molecule” because it activates the same CB1 receptor as THC, which produces a state of calm and happiness.
The first molecule he discovered is a type of essential fatty acid that he called anandamide because ananda is the Sanskrit word for bliss. Research demonstrates that when anandamide binds to the cannabinoid receptor it not only stimulates a state of bliss it also positively impacts memory, motivation, higher thought processes, and movement control. In addition, this cell-to-cell communication plays an important role in appetite control and pain perception.
The second molecule he discovered has a less elegant name as it is referred to as 2-arachidonoylglycerol or 2-AG. Together these two bliss molecules help ensure that all of the cells of a particular type or in a specific area of the body or brain are rowing at the right pace and in the right direction. That’s why it’s so important to support this healthy cell-to-cell communication between these bliss molecules and the cannabinoid receptors throughout the body. These molecules and this communication process is a significant part of the complex and important endocannabinoid system or ECS.
The best way to support the ECS and activate these bliss molecules is with a healthy whole foods Mediterranean diet, consistent physical activity, and targeted dietary supplements.
There are a number of plant extracts in particular that help support a healthy conversation between these bliss molecules and the cells in your body including:
- Clove oil
- Echicancea purpurea
- Sichuan pepper
In addition, certain nutrients and herbs have been shown to support key functions within the ECS including:
- Boswellia serrate
- Huperzine A
- Bacopa monnieri
- Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)
Utilizing a comprehensive diet and lifestyle approach will help ensure your bliss molecules are activated and functioning at their peak!
